Eden
With the Eden School House project, I used the opportunity to examine the racial tensions and divisions currently at play within the community and it's history. Once known as Klansville, USA, this small, southern town seems incapable of shedding it's bigoted past, and in the case of many residents, in favor of delving deeper into it.
Examining the local archives, I was presented with an exhibit of white-washing. Of the thousands of photos kept there, there is an overpowering presentation of the caucasian population. Only 8 photos of Afro Americans exist in the readily available public archives. My aim was to create an enduring record of these individuals and pay respects to their struggle. This work means to act as a memorial, as well as a reminder of America's racially charged past and present as well as a catalyst for conversation and healing.
